Wood engravings of chickens enjoy a very rich history as some of the earliest illustrations of breeds were communicated through this medium en route to becoming illustrations in Civil War-era guide books. These original pieces are incredibly valuable and continue to sell as beautiful prints that would add a touch of class to any room or decor–their images as timeless as their character.
So it’s no surprise that artist Casey Jo Boeger would be drawn to wood engraving when she decided to pursue art as both her passion and her career by starting Woodartmemories. Boeger was especially attracted to this timelessness and the lasting beauty of wood engravings, particularly for baby books–capturing in time the perfect likenesses of her subjects as special memories for her clients for years to come.
Wood burning is something I’ve grown up enjoying ever since I got my first wood burning kit back in Kansas. I really enjoy creating unique designs for my friends and family. I’ve always known that art is what I wanted to do for a living. I just wasn’t sure exactly I wanted to do. I used to think that I wanted to be a graphic designer or go into animation. I even went to school for both. I started in animation and ended graduation with a degree in graphic design. Now, I am 28 years old, and it just came back to wood burning and crafts. I like to make custom designs. So when I learned about Etsy an online website for selling handmade and vintage designs, I decided to start my own business. Right now, it’s still very new to me, and I am just taking it one day at a time. I hope to go far with my artwork. Right now I am enjoying being able meet new people and getting to create one of a kind pieces.
