So, tell me…do you name your flock? Some people do and others don’t. For those that do name their flock, there are some really clever names out there! Some people are so creative. I have seen many chicken names over the years. Some people name their chickens after celebrities. Other chickens are named for birthstones, foods, their colors, feelings and personality. Here are my flock’s names and a few other favorites.

Our Little Flock:
Sunshine – our tiny, but beloved Buff Orpington who thinks she’s a human
Dottie – a bossy Barred Rock
Jojo – an olive egger who follows Dottie everywhere (we think she’s an Ameruacana and Welsummer cross)
Raven – a sweet and pretty Australorp whom was killed by a fox

Our first 5 were “old lady names” as my then 4 year old put it.
Bertha (rip)
Dorothy (rip)
Myrtle
Ethel (rip)
And one she changed to Treasure.
We then aquired a rooster, we named him Cluck Norris.
We also have ducks. Penny and Doofy first. Then we got Odette and snow white (pekins) we just got 6 more ducklings, the 4 pekins are named Belle, Jasmine, Prince Ali and Ariel (bc princess theme) & the other two “mutts” are Peep and Moo.
We now have 6 more chicks that I’m trying to find theme names for their little group and I have 8 bunnies born yesterday who need their own theme as well.
We didn’t name our coop we just call the backyard “The Eldridge Farm”…we have 2 pigs too.
My chickens were : Omelette, Paxo, Audrey, Tikka, Frizzl, Lacey and Stacey
We named our 9 chickens: King,Which,Henreda,King,Marvin,Marlynn,Kelvin Jr.,Melvin
Chicken names:
Original 12 Omelet, Oven Stuffer and twin Roaster, Meat Stick, Chicken Nugget, BBW, Teriyaki, Bailey, Parmesan, Fajita, Crispy, and Extra Crispy
Next 6 were supposed to be Ameraucana poulets, they were not: North Dakota, South Dakota, Rhode Island, Maui, Alaska, and Delaware.
After getting those 6 yes 6 roosters, we gave up.
Hatched Uno, Douce, and Tres last year.
I named ours The pHENthouse
I lived in FL for 6 winters and made some amazing friends. I gathered my girls one at a time into our flock and love each one dearly. I called them my Girls. I am living on the farm in Ontario full time now and keep up with my friends thru Facebook and messaging and phone calls. I named my coop the Sunshine Girls and my hens are affectionately named after my dear friends: Judy, Dottie, Dee, Barb, Maria, Lillian, Jeanne, and Ollie…..I still have more friends when my flock grows, but for now , my Girls bring me so much entertainment and joy and are a constant reminder of friends that I don’t get to see often anymore.
I just rescued 2 hens and a roo, and I just built my first coop and we named it “Cluckville” . It is 7′ x 8′ lean-to shed with plenty of ventilation and 2 ramps one that leads to a 21′ x 7′ run and the other leads to my large fenced yard for their weekly free range. Still have to build the nesting boxes, but temporally using a pop up barrel with an old swing cushion in it…2 eggs a day and they are finally getting used to their coop
We started out with Buckeye chicks. We are University of Michigan fans so the name Buckeye didn’t sit well with us since that is the Ohio State team’s name but they are supposed to be great chickens. My next chicks were Ameraucanas. The blue one is feisty, bold and is blue with a little yellow so my daughter named him Wolverine after the U of M team. Then my husband suggested the coop be named The Big House after the U of M stadium. We are building it now so I am still thinking about all the decorating possibilities!
We are in the process of building our coop. Our last name is Emel so it will be Emel’s Eggheads. Getting 5 hens and naming them Nugget, Noodle, Taco, Potpie & Fricassee. We have no plans to use them in any recipes though 🙂

I don’t now if jen is good for my chicken
My coop is called Fowl Play. I just bought 2 glw’s and they don’t have names yet.
I named my four baby chicks, Meeko, Mithoo, Mulan, and Bo
We were thinking of naming our five hens after the characters in the Percy Jackson Series. Like Annabeth, Piper, and Hazel. We were also considering the names from some Greek goddesses, like Athena or Hera. Or maybe even Calypso! Who knows? We are still deciding. For the coop, I was thinking the Ommlette Factory! I love that one! 😀
Or maybe even Olympus to go with the Greek theme!!
I live in New Zealand, so I named one of my chickens “Helen Cluck”, after the then-Prime Minister Helen Clark. Another one I named “Hen Brown” after my city’s Mayor, Len Brown
We Named our coop “SUNNY SIDE INN”
My name is Tucker, so my hens collectively are Tucker’s Cluckers. Their names are Waffles, Betty White, Liz Taylor, and the Dixie Chicks (Natalie, Martie, & Emily)
No name for our coop, I’ll have to think about that. Our rooster is Captain (Blackbeard), an Aracauna, hens are Betty White, Betty Davis, Betty Boop, and Betty Grable, all White Rocks; Barbara the Barred Rock; the Dumpling sisters, Apple and Peach,Golden Comets;Helen Reddy,a Rhode Island Red, and her sister Ellen Reddy; Stub (short for Stubborn) and one young rooster, Barney Google, the Barred Rock.
I dont have my chicks but Idk what I am going to name them but I am calling the Flock Peep and the Fluffy Nugget Crew…lol so one of them is gonna be Peep 🙂
Lucy (Golden Comet,) Woodstock, Sunshine, Dumpling, Nugget, Mildred, and alas, Dumb and Dumber(two Silver Wyandottes who seem to be very scatter brained!)
Tina (Turner- black frizzle), Ava & Zaa Zaa (Gabors- 2 Silkies), Lucy (Red Cochin), Minnie Pearl (Fleur), Charlotte (Web-bantam), Captain (Bossy Bantam hen), Speedy (Americana), Lots of good names out there to chose from!! Fun!!
We call our place Lone Buck Lane (as our Family is made up of our 3 daughters, myself and my husband. Our 2 dogs are both female as well.lol) We don’t have a name for our coop yet but our 3 bantam cross hens are Clucky, Chow Mein and Cordon Bleu, and our little Bantam Rooster is called Nuggets. Love my litle flock!
Our coop is “illegal” because while we live 6 miles from any town limits, we technically live in a 13-house subdivision (crazy – I know!).
The coop is “Hippie Hen Heaven”. The birds are Batty Bridget (ex-battery hen found at a bridge – no joke), Dharma, Flower, Mary Jane, Hobbit and Gypsy. I’m hoping to add either 2 EE’s or 2 more Red Stars (Gold Comets) this next spring to bring my total to 8.
I also raise Red-Golden Pheasant – which need not be kept secret because they’re exotic. LoL! Right now I have a pair – John and Pauly. When I get my additional 2 females they will be Georgie & Ringo. 😉
I’m 42…born a generation or 2 too late!! ♥
Just about to get our first three chickens this week and trying to think up funny names. Best so far are…
Princess Leia
Madame Cholet (from The Wombles)
Yoko Ono
All puns intended!!
Betty … Priscilla … Lucy … Olive (a Wyandotte, of course) … Babe … Sylvia … Maisie … Molly … Pippa … Rosie … Ruby … Penny … Sassafras … Angel … Sandy
I’ve never named the coop but we have Thelma and Louise (Golden Wyandotte’s), Daisy the Dominique, and Rosie and Olivia the Rhode Island Reds. We did have Plain Jane and Old Mama until a week ago but one of those nasty raccoons got them.
I have a whole slew of names but my Rooster is a blue silky named Mr. Fancy Pants! He watches over Hen house 17 (from “Chicken Run”).
Other name include: Black Jersey Giants; Raven, Lenore, and Poe.
Buff Orphingtons: Tilly, Talula, BoGo (buy one Get one, she was free due to the other baby chicks picking on her, the feed store was going to kill her.)
A game hen Named Noel Got her at Christmas (another BOGO) it was a miracle she made it.
My girls are named Autumn, Sage, Faun, Cocoa, Luna, and Ginger. I’ve yet to come up with a good name for their coop.
Our coop is n-named, but the girls all have classics… The only requirement was “at least three syllables”. Sylvia, Millicent, Genevieve, Bianca, Henrietta, Eleanor, and our favorite, Bertisibel. They are all mixed breeds of different sorts, so we get pink, buff, tan, light olive, and light blue eggs.
My black Australorp was Faith because you need Faith in your darkest hour. My white Leghorn was Hope because Hope is pure. My Rhode Island Red was Charity (love) because red is the color of love. My Black and White Plymouth Barred Rock was Mercy because God gives you Mercy whether you are good (white) or bad (black). And my Ameraucana was Grace because that was the name I had left. Unfortunately, due to a bobcat they are now in chicken heaven.
My hens are named for my mother and her friends. Miss Rose, Miss Nellie, Stormy and Margaret. And their coop is named for where she lived – Hardmoney Road.
Braveheart is my buff silkie rooster and he is the best roo ever. gossip girl, sweet pea, blackberry, heidi, joy, pride, autumn, henny penny, phyllis, cowboy, crazy myrtle, and Brewster, my English game roo that roams the yard and thinks he is a dog. We call our henhouse the observation station.
Betsy, Blizzard, Butterscotch, Button, Belle, Baby Ruth, 5 Black Austalorps all named Beauty, and all the Barred Rocks are named Berry (I can’t tell them apart. Also 5 Silver Americauna pullets all named Silver, and the cockerel is Sterling. 3 new hybrid hens named Missy, Muffy, and Mocha. The Welsummer roo is Brewster, and the 4 rooboys are Blue, Crusher, Marigold (I thought he was a girl), and Frenchy.
Priscilla, Perry, Coonzy, Fringe, Ruffles, Brook, Ritz, Margie, Fluffy, Ms. Bones, Aunt Bee, Andy, Penny, Opie,
We named our hens – Barb-B-Que called Barb; Roast known as Ro; Marinara or Mari; General Tso or Gennie; Sam-e for Sesame; Dumpling more commonly known as Ling. Yes, we are disturbed chicken owners…
Our coop is called Fort Bock-Bock. All of our girls know their names too. The long and short versions!
My coops don’t have normal names it’s the gray one, barn one, gold one,log one etc. Have 8 of them and 2 chicken tractors. To many birds to name all the hens but a few that are different have names. I have 4 white leghorns who like to follow me around call them Hecky & Pecky as I couldn’t tell one from another. The roosters are named Rodie,Copper,Rusty,Wyatt,Buggie,Pete,Cory,Kenney,Snowball(white bantam cochin)Slippers,Sprocket,Jeffery and the Blues Brothers(2 blue Jersey Giants)just lost Dusty to a raccoon he was my blue splash Silkie. Have more young ones but sure which are staying or going yet. My peacocks are named Romeo with Juliet and Elvis and Priscella.
I don’t have cute coops and runs. They look like gulags. I call them Proletariat Egg Production Commune #1, and #2.
Well, our three red stars, Ruby Redbreast, Henny Penny, Little Red Hen, then Owlie, Elvira, Davy Crockett (during the grandboy’s Davy stage, I was Becky, so that was taken), Yellow Chick Awesome, Fancy, Sunshine, Golda Mychicken, Caillou, Silver King, Jetta and Pap’s Girl, all live in Cluckingham Palace.
I have a Columbian Wyandotte that was born with a crooked beak. I kept a close eye on her and she does great…I trim her beak when it get too long. If I forget she will come and pester me, usually by poking me until I remember. I named her “Mona Lisa” as in the lyrics from the song: Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa men have named you. So like the lady with the crooked smile… How could I not?
The coop is named: Eggs Ta Va Ganza!!
Our coop is called the Chicken Château. Of course, you pronounce chicken as shicken and it must be said with a French accent. As far as chicken names we have Nugget, Ceelo-Mean (a really mean silkie rooster), Greasy (my nephew named her), Kentucky Fried (my other newphew named her), P.I.T.A. (the hen that won’t stay out of my way when I clean), Sarah, Harpo (she made a honking sound when she was young), Shamrock & Roo. We don’t names for them all, just some of our favorites.
My Australorp is Roo-bie, the Dominique is Beatrice and my Buff Orphingtons are Carmelita and Butterscotch.
I have Chicken Nugget, Chicken Fingers, Ruthie, Sophie and Blanche
They reside in the Chick Inn and the smaller coop/run is the Fluffy Butt Hut.
My suburban homestead is Manx Manor in honor of my 6 rescued Manx cats. My girls are Bette Davis, Greta Garbo, ZsaZsa & Eva Gabor, Audrey Hepburn, Annette Funicello, The RIR’s are Lucy Ball, Rita Hayworth, Clara Bow, Mitzi Gaynor. Mitzi may turn out to be a roo then he’ll be Danny Kaye. ZsaZsa has 3 Ameraucana’s I slipped under her after ther 3 week sit on a wooden egg. They’ll be named once they’ve grown up. Sadly Mae & Marilyn passed this year from age. Haven’t named the coop yet – Suggestions?
When we first got our Easter Egg babies, I assigned a chix to each of my relatives (for each to name): mother’s is Jewel, my husband’s is Gypsy, my sister’s is Bo-Peep, my daughter’s is Chick-ita, my brother’s is Freckles, and mine is Easter. We lovingly call them “The Girls”. My brother, husband and myself recently built them a new house (they prefer the old one), but the nesting box which extends on the outside on the building, states “GIRLS ONLY”.
My girls: Houdini, Cheetarah, Blackie & Gretchen live in their cute little ‘Coop DeVille’.
My sons name all our hens…They are 8 and 9. So we have Lucy, Lover, Mrs. Bigmouth and Henny Penny (Buff Oprpingtons), Carmel, Lassie, Rebecca and Sarah (Wyandotte/Brahma cross) Arawen (silver spangled Hamburg pullet for 4H showmanship), Galadriel (a rosecomb brown leghorn pullet with scissor beak….also for 4H). We also have Queen Ester (a buff cochin pullet) – we also call her Poofy Pants because of the way she walks with her feathered legs -like the gal in I dream of Jeannie. I had to ask my kids most of the names because I can’t keep track!
I have 3 rir layla, lilly and lucy, 3 barred rock dixie, pixie and trixie and 3 easter eggers chi chi, bebe and blondie. I love my girls!!!
We live with four Buckeyes: the Chick-a-Divas: Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, Blossom Dearie, and Sister Re (Aretha Franklin). We’ve not named the coop, but I guess it could be “Birdland.” If I ever get a Buff Orpington, she’ll be Miss Peaches (Etta James) and our first rooster will be Satchmo.
She came to us as Maggie, but once here, her name changed to Large Marge for both her status and size (My sister was displeased to share the name until they finally met recently.)
Among others are Obrahma (a dark brahma pullet) and RC, for Rogue Chicken, who literally came out of the woods and adopted us last year.
But as for their bitchin’; new pad- well surely that needs a moniker to match!
We’ll get on that asap.
Our hens are Ruby (Red Star), Buffy (Buff Orpington), Nicki (Dominique), Boots (Dark Brahma), Muffy (Arucana), Puff and Snowball (White Frizzle Bantams). Our son calls this the Chicken Ranch, we have not named the new coop that was just finished a couple of weeks ago, yet.
I have a Frizzle Cochin named Fritz. She is beautiful. I have a tiny white silkie hen named “Silkie” of course. I have a hen i raised by hand from a baby named “Peep Peep”. I have a cute white hen I named Marilyn Monroe. A black top knot I call Elvis. Two red Rhode Island Red hens I call Lucy and Ethel.
My girls are all named after eggs: Souffle, Omelet, Quiche, Foo Yung, Nog, Deviled, Tamago and Meringue. Can you guess which one is the Lemon Orp?
I made my first Chicken Tractor and it ended up looking like a plane fuselage, so I called it Frying Pan Am, and my hens were the stewardesses! I sold that coop, but the buyer decided to keep the paint scheme and theme. I have a new coop, but haven’t named it yet…
Our girls are Pearl, Piper, Paprika, Marshmallow, Whisper, Clover, Pixie, Zelda, Hazel, Peaches and Biddy Biddy (the runt). 6 easter egger bantams of various colors and 5 RIR bantams.
Sorry I hit publish then realized I didn’t describe their coop. I used a 10x10x6 Dog Kennel with a top and tarps to weather-proof the gaps and sides. I created my own roost bars inside that leans against the sides, and I use a large plastic dog house as a nesting box with alfalfa straw. I have not named it but it makes a nice coop to keep neighbor cats out. The girls free range in our super large back yard but have fencing during garden season because they eat everything just about.
My coop is Bunnies and Birds, my chickens are Autumn, Juanita, Lovergirl, Chloe, Smoke, Rain, Prescious, Cloudy, Snow, Olive, Sophie, Pickles, Boo, Fawn. Truffles, Boobo, Hooie; ducks are Magoo, Jeminy, Penelope, Kiowa, Koda, Ash, Juniper, Smudge, Blush; geese are Tonia, Lara, ZHIVAGO; bunnies are Blizz, Heather, Adele, Agate.
We have several coops, but only one is named…Queenie’s Coop…after my late grandmother who raised me, and taught me a great deal about keeping chickens. It houses my breeding pair of d’Uccles, Millie & Billy, my breeding pair of Chocolate Polish, Hershey & Bliss, my Seramas breeders, some of who are just named randomly, and some who are named after famous couples, like Napoleon & Josephine, Romeo & Juliet, Barney & Betty, and my silkie breeders, of which only the roos are named, Wilson, Picasso, a paint Silkie, and Phil [Phil is a silver colored Silkie, so I named him after late comedian Phil Silvers.]
Coupe de Chicken and we have Zucchini, Elle, Runt, Lady, Star, Sydney, Queensland 🙂
Yes. Our coop is called Lily’s Coop, after our Jack Russell, Lily, that always wanted chicken, but never got to have any on Earth. RIP
Our chickens have names too. We live in a residential section, and our city just recently let us have only 6 hens per property. We have 4 so far, Rosemary, Poppy, Henny and Penny. I hatched the last 2, bantam cochins in the incubator, and the first 2 came from another state are bantam Seramas. They are fun to watch, have an outside roost, and all 4 fly up to it! Susan in Chesapeake, Va
I am getting two hens in a week and was thinking of naming them Lucy and Ethel (one is red). I want a name that can kinda go with this theme, but can’t think of anything fun. Any suggestions?
On the I Love Lucy show, Ricky played at Club Tropicana, and later at his own club, Club Babaloo, but I am not really liking either one.
I like Club (or Coop) Babaloo!!! 🙂
How about Club Chickacana or Club Chickaloo
Coopa Cabana! Lol
My coop is named Rockin’ Chick Hotel. My name is Robin, so Rockin’ Robin started it and it is a chick hotel. Yes, my chickens are named. The first six which are barred rocks are named after great Aunts, Sylvie, Cleo, Cecile, Hazel, Ruby, and Vera. The most recent are: Racer is a speckled Sussex that raced around as a chick, Buffy is a buff orpington, Lucy is our red sex link, Daisy is our Black australorp, Sassy is a buff laced polish, and Diller is our gold laced polish and two weeks older than the rest. Named after Phyllis Diller because of the top.
We built our coop to look like the Tardis from Dr. Who, so it is TardEs Cottage. Timely And Relatively Daily Egg Supplier. All the girls are named after Dr. Who companions, Rose, Martha, Donna, Amy, Clara and of course, the hen we named River, turned out to be a rooster, so we call him The Doctor.
I love this! I would like to see pictures if you have any. I am a HUGE Doctor Who fan!
Best. Coop. Ever. I too LOVE this coop idea and your name choices. My girls are all named after musical divas. We have (or had at one point) Celine, Dolly, Cher, Mariah, Brittney, and Aretha. I’m thinking our new chicks may end up being Tina, Diana, Bessie, and Ertha. Or maybe Annie. Or Janis. So many choices! 🙂
My summer coop is the “Princess Pavillion” the chickies all answer to “chickies” at the moment, but once they start displaying traits, they will be named. I have a greenhouse all set up for the few winter months we do have but don’t have a name yet for that. Suggestion? Winter???? Cal Spa? Help me out here
Faygel, Beatrice, PEA, Bill Wilson, Yaz, Kiwi, Banjo, Lois Wilson, Eggplant, and our rooster is Buffy the vampire slayer
The Coop is called “Little Wings”. We also have cats so when we refer to the “farm” I’ve named it Wattles & Whiskers!
We own the “Crème de la Coop” and our hens are all named after French foods: Truffle, Souffle, Beignet, Eclair and Merengue.
My coop is the “Taj MaCoop” and my girls are “Ruby”, “Alberta” and “Eggbert”.
Some of mine are known as “da poop squad” My cochin hen is called Thunderthighs. There was Specklefreck, Chicken Little, Big Boy, Chester, Lizzy, Bob, Hammy, Tiny, T.Tye, to name a few.
Laughing at Thunderthighs!
All 10 0f my pullets are named….all 3 guineas and both pea-chicks…and I swear they know their names!!! LOL
We have a very military family, and as such have a vast pool of famous names to tap not often thought of. We named our lemon lace orpington rooster who struts around with way too much swagger, like most generals do, TOJO.
We have Sparrow, Rooster(who is really a pushy hen),Banana, Dark Clark, Orange Crush. We call our urban farm the Chicken Ranch.
My Grand~ Daughter’s named the girls, mostly Disney names: Tinkerbell, Rapunzel, Minnie, Clara Bell & Sophie. I don’t have a name for the coup, but I named our Ranch ~ Just E Nuff Ranch 🙂
