Our friends across the pond, Wells Poultry, recently sent us this infographic we think you’ll love. Find a variety of different chicken breeds, their origin, size, purpose, egg laying quantity and egg color/shape/size in this excellently crafted chart.
You can download the full, unsplit, version of the graphic here. We suggest you print it and hang it in the coop to prepare for when chick season rolls around, soon. Thanks, Wells Poultry!

This chart is completely false and fraudelent. First of all, ALL of the chicken breeds listed as Chinese ARE NOT EVEN CHINESE, THEY ARE INDIAN ORIGIN! Chickens were first domesticated in the Southern Asia India region and to a lesser extent South East Asia but not China.
Even the names of these chickens are Indian and not even Chinese. Who made this ridicules chart map lol?
A follow up from our Editor. Some of the names may seem pretty confusing in terms of geography. But the chickens marked with a Chinese origin are indeed correct in the chart. For instance, the Pekin chicken is a bantam breed that originated in Beijing (used to be translated as “Peking”). The Brahma chicken (no relation to the Brahma class in India) is a large meat breed chicken that we imported into the U.S. from Shanghai in the 1830s. It was the most popular meat chicken in the U.S. from the 1850s through the 1930s.
Just found the best range of hatching eggs I’ve seen at http://www.durham-hens-poultry-supplies.co.uk/
Nice range of Hybrid and pure bred poultry here durhamhens.co.uk
What a great guide, haven’t seen anything so well done as this for a long time. Will definitely need to make something like this for my blog!!
Wish they had put the names of the countries under the flags. I know a few, but definitely not all of them.
